Paperless Wedding loves the idea of 'Trash the Dress'

I got married almost two years ago and my lovely dress has been cleaned and neatly packed away in a box.  It currently resides in attic back in the UK. However, I was lucky as I did actually get to wear my dress again. I wore it the day after the wedding at our boat party on the Thames, but this time with trainers! Suffice to say that since then, I have not worn it, nor seen it again.

Is it a waste? One dress for one day….or two in my case! The most eco friendly thing you could do is recycle it.  My mum made her dress into our christening gowns.  You could also sell it.....hard to do, but you could also 'Trash the Dress".

I had read about “Trashing your Dress” photo sessions and they sounded very cool. Unfortunately we only had a few months before we moved to the other side of the world and this was not a priority. However one of my friends did do it and loved every second!

Beth Lang got married in October 2009 in Bath, UK and this is why she did it;

“We did it because we wanted Sasha (the dog) to be part of our big day but it was difficult because venues don't like big, hairy animals wandering around freely, and to ask someone to look after her for us was a big ask and big responsibility for someone, and they wouldn't be able to enjoy the day.

So we thought it would be lovely to have some shots with her in our local woods. We asked the photographer, he had never heard of such a thing but was more than willing to come and see us again afterthe wedding for a few hours and oblige, he didn't even charge us anything extra, which is a massive bonus. I think he may now offer it as an additional service to his packages now!!

It was a lot of fun, and an excuse to get dressed up in my beautiful dress again! Sadly no-one saw us in the woods which was a bit disappointing!

As a result we have some amazing photos, and Sasha will always be a part of it, Everyone laughs when they see the shots and, let's face it, when will you wear that dress again????”

There is one company that I have been following recently called Perspectives Photography in NZ.

They have a whole package that specialises in trashing the dress.

In Australia there is a lot of choice, with a site dedicated to linking to companies that offer this service.

Trash the Dress Australia

I am so tempted to do something like this with my dress when I get back to the UK. The only issue is will I still be able to fit into it then!!!
